The Role
The Senior Systems Engineer is a key member of the infrastructure team, responsible for delivering project-based work and ongoing support across the client environments and internal systems. This role spans all areas of infrastructure, including servers, storage, virtualisation, cloud services, and security platforms.
This position involves leading and coordinating complex IT initiatives, from planning and development to implementation and ongoing support. As a visible role within the organisation, it provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to a fast-growing, global IT services firm. The ideal candidate is a seasoned IT professional with experience in financial services and Managed Services Providers (MSPs), and demonstrates professionalism, initiative, and a strong client-service focus.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior escalation point for issues managed by the Server Administration team.
- Support and maintain anti-spam tools, web filtering systems, network perimeter defenses, and remote access technologies.
- Manage and administer storage platforms and virtualisation environments.
- Provide full lifecycle support for servers, Active Directory, Exchange, and perform system migrations and upgrades.
- Collaborate with Network Engineering, Telephony, and other infrastructure teams to coordinate network-related activities.
- Ensure compliance with SLAs and internal OLAs.
- Engage directly with clients to assess needs and recommend infrastructure solutions.
- Maintain proactive communication with clients regarding project or support ticket status.
- Develop and document standard operating procedures for internal use.
- Address all infrastructure-related inquiries throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring high-quality outcomes and timely updates/documentation.
- Liaise with third-party vendors for server and software deployments.
- Contribute to the design and execution of new project plans and infrastructure overhauls.
- Participate in planning sessions for new deployments, office relocations, and cloud infrastructure implementations.
- Collaborate with internal technical teams to develop and deliver tailored client solutions.
Requirements
- Fluent in English and French
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven experience managing complex, cross-system technical projects.
- Strong understanding of enterprise networking technologies and integrations.
- Effective in high-pressure situations; skilled in technical crisis management.
- Proficient in scripting with PowerShell.
- 6–10 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft-based server environments.
Expertise in
- Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, and Group Policy
- Virtualisation platforms such as VMware, AWS, and Azure
- Microsoft Exchange (2010, 2013, 2016) and Office 365
- Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions like Intune, MobileIron, AirWatch
- Experience with SAN technologies and public cloud security (WAF, Load Balancing, Security Groups, ACLs).
- Strong grasp of public cloud networking (Azure and AWS).
- Prior experience in infrastructure deployment and support within Azure and/or AWS environments.
