Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer

 

Role Overview

Our clients are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise infrastructure systems across the UK and Europe. This role requires deep technical expertise combined with leadership capability, serving as an escalation point for local IT teams while ensuring secure, reliable, and high-performing infrastructure services.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure Leadership: Serve as a senior technical escalation point and mentor for the IT Infrastructure team. Support team development through coaching, recruitment, and performance reviews.
  • Technical Delivery: Design, deploy, and maintain core infrastructure solutions, including:
  • VMware: vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, vSAN
  • Citrix: XenApp/XenDesktop, ADC/NetScaler, WEM
  • Storage: FC and SAS SANs (Dell Unity, ME series)
  • Backup: Commvault, Veeam
  • Microsoft Infrastructure: Windows Server, Active Directory, SCCM, Intune
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee incident and request management, change control, and SLA/KPI reporting to maintain service quality and uptime.
  • Security & Compliance: Apply best practices for system hardening and compliance. Support security audits and manage tools such as Qualys, Beyond Trust, and Sentinel One.
  • Collaboration: Partner with network, cloud, security, and service desk teams to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and monthly infrastructure reports.
  • Support Coverage: Provide Level 1/2 support when required and participate in on-call and after-hours rotations.

 

Required Experience & Skills

  • 5–7 years of hands-on experience in enterprise IT infrastructure roles.
  • Virtualization: VMware, Citrix
  • Storage & Backup: SANs (Dell Unity/ME), Commvault, Veeam
  • Microsoft Technologies: Windows Server 2019/2022, Active Directory Tiering, PowerShell scripting
  • Endpoint & Patch Management: SCCM, Intune, WSUS, Exchange 2016/2019
  • Security Tools: Qualys, Sentinel One, Zscaler, Cisco Umbrella
  • Privileged Access Management: Beyond Trust
  • Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Strong ability to work independently and lead complex technical projects.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Information Technology or a related field.
  • Professional certifications in one or more of the following:
  • VMware, Citrix, Microsoft, Backup, Storage, or Networking
