Data Migration Lead

 

 

Overall Role Objectives

Reporting to the Head of Business Systems you will have a strong background in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions and be an expert at analysing and documenting business requirements for data migration, mapping and integration.

 

You’ll be the Data Migration Lead on our clients largest ever investment programme, supporting the deployment of an ERP system across our clients Sales, Service, Order Management, Finance and Operations (incl Supply-Chain, Warehousing and Logistics) functions.

 

You will play a vital role in this exciting and critical programme, building the strategy and approach to manage the data migration from our clients existing systems to the new ERP solution.

 

You’ll understand all of the data across the business areas and systems, and develop a strategy of what data to archive, migrate or cleanse as part of the new system implementation. You will partner with colleagues across the business to understand how data is used and provide guidance on cleansing, and with our clients in-house data team to support the evolution of the data platform.

 

You will assess and document new business requirements, providing appropriate recommendations and solutions for review and approval by the Head of Systems Operations and our clients CAB (change approval board).

 

You will champion the ERP data migration plan so it fully meets the business need ensuring consistency and compliance across all functions. You will need to understand and maintain the integration flows between different systems.

 

You will provide support coverage when issues occur – acting as 3rd line support to our clients Service Delivery team providing assistance and/or documentation as needed.

Tasks/Responsibilities

Systems

  • Use your existing experience with ERPs to understand the existing data landscape of the ‘As-is’ systems and define the data migration plan to take us to the ‘To-be’ platforms.
  • Work with the Portfolio, IT and Business teams to gather and understand the business requirements, rules and logic and document them to enable repeatable data activities (migrations, refreshes, testing setup) and ensure data migration activity is clearly understood and supported.
  • Co-ordinating within the IT Department, Portfolio Delivery Team and business functions to agree delivery schedules for system developments and updates, and to deliver on the implementation, user acceptance testing, data migration and sign off.
  • Acting as a point of escalation on all data mapping/migration issues.
  • Be a key member of the DX delivery team, driving the team and wider business to achieve our clients strategic goals on time and to the agreed cost / quality measures.
  • Other duties as are within the scope and spirit of the job and the title of the position that may arise from time to time or as required by management.
  • Act as the key interface between our internal delivery teams, our implementation partners and business areas in terms of data requirements across the programme.

  • Lead the Data team to ensure successful transition of data from legacy systems to D365 ERP and related platforms.
  • Manage resources across a matrix-managed environment to ensure timely delivery spanning data migration, conversion, integration.
  • Continually improve the customer service provided to the business, with clear communication and collectively developing business relationships, focusing on common goals.
  • Communicating with operational managers and staff in a professional manner at all times.

Internal Control

  • Requirement for weekly reporting to management of status and progress to plan.
  • Document and own the data requirements for all elements of the ERP system, promote good data hygiene and GDPR practices.
  • Establish process by which the data will be validated for appropriate quality and accuracy.
  • Assess Internal Controls and implement remediation for significant control deficiencies for the areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure documentation of policies and procedures required to support all aspects of data migration are maintained up to date.
  • Maintain the company’s records to ensure compliance with the Group’s J-Sox CLC, FRCLC and PLC requirements.
  • Ensure relevant policies and procedures are followed to enable compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to the aspects of responsibility under the control of this role.
  • Co-ordination and support of internal and external audit activities as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Extensive ERP data migration experience.
  • Significant experience as a Data Migration Lead with a strong understanding of the data migration lifecycle, approaches, tools and techniques.
  • Familiar with managing large volumes of data, using tooling to support the ETL process, and comfortable dealing with data from multiple legacy systems requiring significant transformation.
  • Experience with data mapping system-to-system (e.g. Legacy to new ERP), and layer-to-layer (e.g. Database to BI, Integration).
  • Ability to create, manage and deliver plan for data migration across matrixed IT teams.
  • Identify data quality and agree data cleansing with stakeholders.
  • A creative problem solver, you know how to influence stakeholders at all levels to step back, understand the root cause of a problem and develop innovative solutions.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, inspiring them to achieve ambitious goals.
  • Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and can effectively convey complex technical and business concepts to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and can adapt to changing priorities, whilst maintaining focus on the big picture in terms of strategic goals / timescales.
  • Have a track record of delivering high-quality migrations on time and on budget, with a keen attention to detail and a focus on being better every day.

Desirable

  • Strong academics (including a related computer science degree)
  • Experience with MS D365 F&O and MS Data Management tools/processes.
  • Background in implementing Microsoft Dynamics solutions, covering both Customer Engagement and Finance & Operations domains.
